The pinnacle of international GT motor racing, the Spa 24 Hours is supported this year by the leading diamond certification laboratory, International Diamond Laboratories (IDL), a Dubai Government initiative; and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
An annual endurance race that takes place in the scenic settings of the Ardennes Hills in Belgium, the Spa 24 Hours is regarded as the largest event on the FIA GT calendar and features Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Maserati and attracts the highest number of spectators and famous race drivers. The event scheduled from August 2-3 this year will have an IDL-DMCC Porsche GT at the Circuit National of Spa- Francorchamps, widely acclaimed as one of the toughest race tracks in the world.
Commenting on the IDL- DMCC support to the FIA GT Championship, Peter Meeus, CEO of IDL and Executive Director of Diamonds, DMCC, said: “The Spa 24 Hours is the favourite of international GT racing, bringing together the most skilled race drivers and the largest grid of spectators.
“Our support will bring the spotlight on diamond jewellery certification, making this event the meeting point of a woman’s best friend and the man’s favourite toy. It is the perfect combination of glamour and power.”
Sports sponsorship is increasingly becoming an important consumer liaison activity for companies and this is the first step IDL has taken in this direction, he added.
“Motor racing has always been a favourite sport in Europe and also the Middle East. This is reflected in the attention that F1 races in Bahrain, Turkey and Abu Dhabi have been receiving. Belgium being one of the most important diamond centres in the world is a crucial market for us and we are proud to support this important event on the country’s sports calendar,” he commented.
Established in 2007, IDL is committed to developing the international diamond market through quality certification defining the 4 Cs- colour, clarity, cut and carat- of polished diamonds and diamond jewellery. With headquarters in Dubai, IDL has offices in Antwerp (Belgium), Mumbai (India) and most recently, Istanbul (Turkey).
