IDL Certificates describe the characteristics of the diamond after it has been examined in the laboratory using state of the art equipment and instruments including binocular microscopes, ultraviolet visible and infrared spectrophotometers, synthetic and HPHT enhanced diamond screening and detection devices, shortwave fluorescence imaging systems, X-ray fluorescence detection systems, Raman and photoluminescence spectrophotometers.
IDL carefully selects its diamond graders and researchers from scientific and technological institutions. All go through a six month in-depth training program during which they are fully familiarized with the IDL diamond grading standards, procedures and technology. Only after successful completion of their training, will a diamond grader be awarded the authorization to participate in the actual grading process.
